Badminton Prodigy Shines in International competition

Year 11 student George – our young badminton prodigy - has been at it again, winning the Under-17 German Badminton Open.

Having once again been selected by Badminton England, George travelled out to Düsseldorf alongside 12 other players – from the under-17 and under-15 age groups – on Tuesday, before competing in a series of matches throughout the week.

In total George played seven matches – against a mixture of German and Czech players – as part of a dazzling run to the competition final, in which he didn't drop a single set!

That record continued in Sunday’s showpiece final where George triumphed 21-9, 21-9 to take home first place.

He was part of a Badminton England squad that performed admirably, reaching every semi-final and eventually emerging with three golds, three silvers and four bronzes, a very impressive haul!

But what next for our bright young badminton star?

Well, George has another England camp at the end of October – an under-17 gold and an under-19 gold – before participating in under-17 and under-19 nationals in November and December.

It’s certainly going to be a busy few months for George, and we look forward to following his progress and cheering him on!
