Bhoot Bazaar

This week, many of our Year 9 students had the opportunity to experience our Bhoot Bazaar.

The new Year 9 novel, Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line by Deepa Anappara, is set in India and asks students to consider universal themes of family, friendship, justice and equality in a setting some may not be familiar with. While Year 9 students have shown brilliant analysis skills with new vocabulary and contexts, the English department wanted to bring the setting of the bazaar to life to help them better understand why the young characters find the place so exciting.

Students became characters from the novel and worked as stall holders inviting visitors to try their food, drink, make up and clothes. Mrs Giga demonstrated traditional mehndi and clothing while the whole department contributed items and ideas for the day. The Year 9s were curious, kind and excited to experience the bazaar.
