Collaborative rugby contest
On Tuesday 10th December, 22 Year 7 and Year 8 students from The Castle Rock School and The Newbridge School participated in an exhilarating rugby match.Throughout this term, students from both schools have enjoyed learning about the rules and regulations and rugby, as well as developing their skills with the expert guidance of Leicester Tigers coaches
This cross-school collaboration, therefore, gave all students the perfect opportunity to showcase what they had learned; for many, it was the first touch rugby game they had played.
Held on the 3G pitch at Newbridge, the match was a fantastic display of athleticism, skill and teamwork. Students impressed their teachers and coaches with their enthusiasm, technique, and determination, scoring several exceptional tries along the way.
A particular highlight was a brilliant interception by a Castle Rock player in the final five minutes of the match, adding to the excitement. Ultimately, Castle Rock emerged victorious with a 7-4 win.
A magnificent occasion and one that allowed students to apply the skills they had learned in their PE lessons and extracurricular initiatives. With ongoing support from Leicester Tigers, students can look forward to honing their craft and developing a deeper passion for rugby.
Special thanks go to Coalville Rugby Club for their invaluable support in refereeing the game and assisting with coaching. Both schools aim to strengthen their partnership with the club, fostering closer ties and providing more opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular fixtures. Moving forward, there is a shared goal to inspire new players to embrace rugby, whether through PE lessons or after-school clubs, with ongoing support from the Leicester Tigers.
