Newbridge is a GOOD School

Inspectors commended the significant progress we have made since our last full inspection in 2022, describing Newbridge – an 11-16 secondary school in Coalville - as a “caring and welcoming” environment with a “calm and orderly” atmosphere.

They also highlighted substantial improvements in classroom learning and academic outcomes; factors attributed to our partnership with Lionheart Educational Trust, whom we officially joined in September 2022. Inspectors observed that “the school and the trust have markedly improved the curriculum and how it is delivered” and, consequently, “pupils’ prior knowledge gaps are closing” and most “now achieve well.”

Lionheart’s input has ensured our students benefit from a well-designed curriculum that is “broad and ambitious;” the full range of English Baccalaureate subjects are offered at Key Stage 4, while the number of learners opting to study a foreign language at GCSE level is also increasing.

Within our revitalised curriculum, Inspectors were quick to recognise a strong commitment to reading. Students are encouraged to read regularly during tutor time and have access to a diverse range of age-appropriate literature, varying in style and genre to ensure that students can “develop their vocabulary and understanding of different cultures.” Ofsted also praised the support we provide to those who sometimes struggle with their reading, noting that “these pupils get extra help from well-trained staff” which “improve[s] their reading fluency and accuracy.”

Alongside our strong commitment to academic progress, is a motivation to develop our learners outside of the classroom through an enriching extracurricular programme. During their visit, Ofsted Inspectors lauded this holistic offering, noting that “an increasing number of pupils participate in extracurricular activities that develop their talents and interests.”

The extracurricular programme includes activities such as Eco Club, netball, football, and Science Club. Pupils also spoke positively to Inspectors about the annual Culture Day celebration, “where they learn about the different cultures in school and the local area.”

Interwoven into our academic curriculum are personal development lessons that teach students about cyber safety, healthy lifestyles and provide them with sound career advice, enabling them to make well-judged decisions about their future. Ofsted noted that this approach not only ensures “pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain,” but it further ensures they “get good quality career advice and guidance [which] helps to inform them about their next steps in education.”

Commenting on the Ofsted judgement, Co-Heads of School Mike Gamble and Mick Rowbottom said: “We are delighted that Newbridge has been recognised as a ‘Good’ school in all areas by Ofsted.

Inspectors highlighted the school’s positive atmosphere and celebrated the diversity and strength of both our academic and extracurricular offerings, which together help shape confident, capable and well-rounded young people.

Over the past two years, our staff and students have demonstrated remarkable resilience and commitment, working tirelessly to raise the school’s standards. We would also like to thanks our parents and carers for their support throughout this journey.
