Year 11 Art Students Shine at Coalville C.A.N

We are incredibly proud of some of our Year 11 Fine Art students, who were given the opportunity to showcase some of their fantastic work at the Coalville C.A.N community event.

For this project, students were each given a copy of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and from this list they selected which one was most important to them.

Next, they researched various case studies related to their chosen goal and wrote a statement of intent that outlined why they had selected it.

Then came the creative challenge. Each student was tasked with designing and creating a three-dimensional art piece that would raise awareness of their chosen goal.

Showcasing inspiring imagination and creativity, students got stuck in, creating a wide variety of inspirational pieces, using a mix of clay and papier mâché.

Simultaneously, the project also allowed them to shed light on a host of crucial topics, including food poverty, femicide, plastic pollution and the gender pay gap.

Once completed, their artistic creations were put on display at Coalville C.A.N, a community benefit society that bring together local talent, skills and knowledge.

“I could not be more proud of them,” explained Ms Heatley.

“They really appreciated having full autonomy over their choices and appreciated being given an opportunity to have their voices heard through their artwork.”
