Year 11 Students Get a Taste of Sixth Form Life at Castle Rock

Across three days in January, 29 of our Year 11 students enjoyed the opportunity to visit the sixth form at The Castle Rock School, where they were able to sit in on a variety of lessons.

Designed to give those considering A-levels a flavour of life as a post-16 student, participants sat in on a variety of different subjects – including Biology, Business Studies, English Literature, Chemistry and Physics – for a double lesson.

The experience allowed our students to better understand the options open to them should they decide to pursue post-16 study at Castle Rock. Following the initiative, some of our learners, who were initially hesitant about undertaking A-levels, came back now believing they could do it.

Castle Rock staff were especially complimentary of our students’ behaviour and commented on the enthusiasm they all demonstrated.

“All our students were talking about how good the lessons were, how lovely it was to have small class sizes and how the teachers seemed really engaging,” explained Assistant Headteacher Mr Barr.

“The fact that many of our students are now considering The Castle Rock School is great for us as we know attending a school nearby will help them with travel etc.

“We are very grateful to Castle Rock for providing us with this opportunity and look forward to working with them more in the future.”
